Why I make Pottery
I make pottery because I love things that are both beautiful and useful — form and function, held at once. Beauty and use. A bowl isn't just something to look at, and it isn't just something to eat from — it's both at the same time, every time you pick it up.
I also love food and cooking. For years I've dreamed of making dishes for a chef — a plate and a meal, designed together as one thing. I notice it every time handmade pottery shows up at a restaurant: something with a little weight, a little imperfection, someone's hand still in it. It changes the meal.
You Can Keep the Dishes is that dream, as a dinner party. I make the dishes. A chef makes the food. And you get to keep them.
Here is how it works:
You gather around a table. All the pottery is designed in collaboration with the chef — each dish chosen with the same care as the meal. There is an opening to honor the Ancestors. We celebrate food. We share, laugh and listen.
At the end of the night, you take your dishes home.
This is for you if:
You believe a meal can be more than a meal.
You love beautiful things made by hand.
You want an evening in communion, with Spirit, and something beautiful to bring home.
You believe the table is where some of the best moments happen.
A note before you arrive
This gathering is rooted and centered in Black Vision, Black food ways, Black Joy, Black Spiritual Practices and African Tradition, and unless noted, everyone is welcome.
We open with a prayer to the Ancestors.
There is always a plate set for them. Sometimes there is ritual.
We set an intention to honor every one present and those who came before us.
